What you do have a choice in, however, is if you choose to
pay attention.
I felt this so often in Thailand, this deep connection to myself and the infinite – swimming with the bioluminescent plankton, looking at the stars, being chased by monkeys – but two experiences are sticking out:
They happen to be bookends, on my first evening and last evening. My first night there, before everyone arrived, I went into a nearby town looking for a sun hat. I decided to take a tuktuk back, and in the middle of the drive it started raining.
my journal from that tuktuk ride:
Riding in the back of a tuktuk I just feel so ALIVE. So present. And how does it get more spiritual than this?? I can smell the rain & feel it on my skin. My whole body is tingling from exhilaration and the misty mountains look like they’re breathing. Being alive is a spiritual experience — how did we get so far removed from this?
And my last night, after everyone left, Georgina and I went walking during low tide and danced under the most magnificent sunset. The colors were marvelous, the light was magic, and the teeny crescent moon was perfect.
my journal from that night:
I have had a week filled with love and magic, and tonight Georgina and I danced during sunset, under my very favorite teeny tiny crescent moon. And I just can’t help but think that this is the point of it all? How could it be anything other than this? Beauty and love and connection, coming back home to myself through these rich experiences of being truly alive. This is what it’s all about.
After getting a taste of this in Thailand, I’ve found myself looking for these moments of presence every day. I almost crave it. And I’m happy to report that it’s there, that almost palpable magic, just waiting for you to reach out! I’ve felt it at the park with Rumi, when the almost-spring sun has gently kissed my cheeks, and I’ve felt it listening to kids ride their bikes up and down our street, and I’ve felt it being present with the taste of fresh coffee. And I’m so grateful to be alive.
