SUNSET
ecstatic dance!
ecstatic dance at the slab was nothing short of magical
we danced our hearts out at the slab.
I didn’t grow up dancing.
Well… actually, I did. Tap, jazz, and ballet when I was little—until a dance teacher told me I might be better at basketball. (She wasn’t wrong.)
So I (unsurprisingly) stopped believing I was allowed to do things I wasn’t already good at.
I stopped dancing.
I never stopped loving dance. I just stopped letting myself participate in it.
Several years ago, I found my way back—not by learning choreography or trying to look a certain way, but by discovering that I’m allowed to move simply because it feels good.
It doesn’t have to be graceful.
It doesn’t have to be impressive.
It doesn’t have to look like anything at all.
I dance because I love the feeling of freedom.
Ecstatic dance has become one of the places where I’ve practiced that freedom. Where I’ve remembered that joy isn’t something you earn by being good enough.
It’s something you choose.
Thank you to everyone who came and danced with us. What a beautiful way to spend a summer evening.
