holy shit you guys,

i’m 40!

the art of falling
Well, well, well. You guys. I AM FORTY. This is so weird!

If someone had told 20-year-old me that I’d be running a successful yoga studio, leading retreats all over the world, and still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up, I would have laughed so hard and then thrown up a little. But here’s what I’ve learned in these beautifully messy four decades: the universe has a wicked sense of humor and an even better GPS system.

Here’s the plot twist nobody prepared me for: my life is absolutely nothing like what I expected at 20—and I’ve never been more grateful for a plan that completely fell apart. Twenty-year-old me had this whole life mapped out (which involved way more business suits, doing what was expected of me, and following the status quo), but the universe was like ‘cute plan LOL, but we’ve got something SO much better in store.’ Turns out, the detours and the ‘oh shit, what am I doing?’ moments weren’t mistakes—they were breadcrumbs leading me exactly where I needed to be.

The thing about being 40 is that you start giving fewer fucks about things that don’t matter and WAY more fucks about things that do. I’ve learned that my intuition is actually smarter than my anxiety brain. I’ve discovered that saying “I don’t know” is not admitting defeat—it’s opening a door. And somehow, in between teaching thousands and thousands of yoga classes and consuming my body weight times ten in iced coffee, I’ve figured out that the scared feeling and the excited feeling? They’re basically the same energy wearing different outfits.
Mary Oliver asked, “What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Well, Mary, apparently I plan to spend it cultivating curiosity, seeking experiences that make me feel awe, and remembering that above all, I value freedom and joy.

I plan to spend it helping people remember they’re allowed to take up space and breathe deeply. That they’re worth grabbing fear by the balls and traveling across the world just to feel alive and remember what it means to be human.

Am I terrified about what’s next? Absolutely. But I’m also buzzing with possibility. Because if the first 40 years taught me anything, it’s that magic happens when you show up anyway: scared shitless but still smiling.

So thank you for being here, for breathing with me, for letting me guide you through poses that sometimes make us all look like confused flamingos, and for reminding me daily that this wild ride is infinitely better with magical company. This life that I’ve created is full of more love, joy, and connection than I could have ever imagined 20 years ago. I am so happy. I love being human.

Here’s to the next chapter—may it be filled with more laughter, deeper breaths, a ridiculous amount of love—and the kind of adventure that would make my younger self simultaneously proud and slightly terrified.

thank you for being here.

xx,

brittany
