Hey beautiful,
You know that back-to-school energy that hits every September? And even if you’re not in school, there’s this “okay now I’m going get shit together” vibe–and it’s so great and exciting…but it only last a few days? (lol)
While September is all about fresh notebooks and good intentions, October whispers something deeper—“What if you actually followed through this time?” This is the month that dares you to move beyond the planning phase and into the beautiful, messy realm of actually doing the thing. But it can get tricky, because it’s so easy to let life get in the way. We all have our favorite excuses.
But here’s what I know about you: You’re incredibly capable, you’ve accomplished amazing things, and yet there’s probably something you’ve been wanting to try (or try again) that you keep putting off because you’re worried about looking foolish. Maybe it’s finally taking that pottery class, learning guitar, attempting crow pose without face-planting, or simply allowing yourself to be terrible at something long enough to maybe, eventually, be decent at it.
The problem isn’t that you’re not brave enough—it’s that somewhere along the way, you forgot that being a beginner is actually a superpower, not a weakness.
What if this October could be your official permission slip to suck at something new? What if you could remember that every single thing you’re now good at started with you being wonderfully, gloriously bad at it? Your beginner’s mind doesn’t need you to be perfect—it needs you to be curious. It needs you to show up with that October courage and remember that stumbling is just learning in motion.
So here’s my October challenge for you: Pick one thing you’ve been wanting to try and give yourself permission to be magnificently mediocre at it. Take the class, buy the supplies, book the lesson, or just show up and see what happens. Because the most radical thing you can do in a world that demands expertise is to raise your hand and say, “I don’t know how to do this yet, and that’s exactly why I’m here.”
Your beginner’s mind is one of your greatest gifts. Don’t let it gather dust while you wait to feel “ready.”
P.S. If your “something new” happens to involve moving your body with us, know that every single person in our community was once exactly where you are now. We’re all just beginners who kept showing up.
thank you for being here.
xx,
brittany
