welcome to an african desert goddess retreat like no other!

Are you ready to feel truly empowered through life-changing adventure & connection with like-minded women? Our Sahara Goddess Retreat has been designed to create the space for you to explore, expand your perspective, shift, and heal.

For the first time ever, we’ve curated a nomadic retreat experience to truly take a deep dive into the magic of the Sahara desert. Some nights will be spent glamping in the biggest dunes of the Moroccan Sahara, while other nights will be spent in gorgeous Bab Zouina retreat center outside of Marrakech. There will be the perfect combination of yoga, camel riding, shopping in the colorful markets with drinking wine under the stars, drumming with a local bedouin tribe, and meditation.

The colors, the sounds, the spices, and the vibrancy of Morocco are at your doorstep — and we’ve taken care of every little detail so you can adventure and experience in a carefree, zero-stress way. Everything has already been arranged: all meals, adventures, lodging, and transportation — up to the moment you board your plane to return home at the end of the week!

I cannot wait to show you why Morocco is one of my favorite places in the world. Get ready to soak up the flavors, landscapes, and excitement of a culture that is so different from our own — all while the smiles of this most amazing people remind us all of our shared humanity.

Bab Zouina

Our week will consist of a carefully curated choose-your-own-adventure schedule that blends yoga, mindfulness, and meditation, with exploring the Sahara Desert, walking through the vibrant markets of old Marrakech, and laughing around desert campfires under the stars. We’ll be offering workshops to explore and develop mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally — and you get to choose what workshops you attend/what you’d like to focus on! Every detail has been designed to create an atmosphere of support and excitement to alchemize your aha! moments into tangible and practical steps you can take toward a life of more healing and self-love.

After signing up, you’ll receive an email with a questionnaire to fill out so we can gauge your interests and design an incredibly customized retreat full of growth, breakthroughs, and love — all under the kiss of the glistening Saharan sun.

your retreat leader

Hi, I’m Brittany! I’ve been teaching yoga since 2008 and opened The Yoga Underground in 2010. I love the way that traveling gives me the opportunity to practice my yoga off the mat, as it forces me to expand my perspective and see things (and myself) in a new and different way. Traveling has also been incredibly empowering to me; each time I navigate a new airport in a new country, the world opens up to me a little more and I feel so alive! Leading retreats all over the world has become one of my favorite things to do, as I love watching retreaters’ minds open as they experience things for the first time. I’d be honored for you to trust me enough to show you some of my favorite hidden gems across the world! And let me just tell you — Morocco is one of them.

Activities & Excursions

Throughout the week, you will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities and adventures, designed to tickle all of your fancies — reconnect with your inner child as you allow yourself to explore and experience things for the first time, all in a safe and supportive group of like-minded women. Cultivate that sense of childlike wonder as we:

  • practice daily yoga & meditation
  • explore the largest dunes of the Moroccan Sahara
  • visit a traditional nomad family in the Sahara to learn about their customs including how they cook in sand stoves
  • adventure through the dunes on a sunset camel ride
  • try our hand at sand dune surfing
  • visit to a women’s weaving co-op
  • spend time together exploring Marrakech, shopping in the market and trying street food
  • take opportunity for a traditional hammam spa experience

the sahara

  •  The first part of our Goddess Retreat will be spent in the breathtaking Sahara Desert! Local guides will take us where most tourists are unable to venture — in 4×4 SUVs we’ll head through the Atlas Mountains into the largest dunes in the Moroccan Sahara.
  • Temperatures will be mild during the day and chilly at night – perfect weather to cozy up to the campfire with a glass of wine.
  • Our Sahara camp (glamp!) has a beautiful yoga space (with yoga mats included) along with private or shared accommodations, and will provide delicious homemade Moroccan meals. We’ll stop on the way to grab any wine/drinks if that’s your fancy, to make sure our campfire time under the stars is unforgettable!

Bab Zouina

the retreat center

  •  Bab Zouina, or “beautiful door” in Moroccan Arabic, will be our home during the second half of our Goddess Retreat. Bab Zouina is the most delightful retreat center located about 45 minutes outside Marrakech, Morocco, in Northern Africa. At the entrance to the Atlas Mountains, Bab Zouina is like living in an enormous, eclectic garden of fruit trees and cacti and flowering vines, with big stone buildings full of rich colors of hand woven cushions and copper lantern lights.
  • Moroccan Arabic design is known for its extremely plain exteriors: most homes are completely solid on the outside — no windows or balconies etc. Yet nearly every home in Morocco uses exquisite, horseshoe arched doorways to mark entrance to something beautiful — and Bab Zouina is no exception!
  • Bab Zouina has multiple separate houses with both private and shared accommodations, as well as tennis court, two yoga shalas, and traditional Moroccan hammam spa
  • Temperatures will be mild during the day and chilly at night – each room has its own wood stove heater to make sure you are cozy as you sleep!

sahara 2024

My favorite parts about this retreat:
1) the orange juice – best orange juice I’ve ever had and nothing compares to it!
2) the people. Every single person I met on this trip was incredible! Our drivers/guides- just so full of energy and so much fun! The Moroccan people we met while purchasing rugs, or argan oil, or the little lady spinning the yarn. They were always so welcoming and even if we couldn’t communicate, they would kindly smile or acknowledge us. Lastly, the group of women! Definitely a diverse group but we all meshed in the best way. I enjoyed getting to meet new people out of my typical comfort circle and learned so much from each of these beautiful individuals. I didn’t realize how much I needed this feminine energy until it hit me!
3) the hotels. I just already love staying in hotels, but these stays were so charming with different Moroccan touches. I was so excited to travel to the next stop just to see what the hotel/room had to offer 🙂
4) the planned itinerary- I love traveling but I hate planning! Especially to a new location where you don’t know anything about it and also factoring in what’s affordable and what’s safe. Brittany nailed it! I loved waking up and just being able to follow the crowd and know that I would have good food and transportation. Made the trip so stress free and enjoyable.
5) the eventful and chill time- when I travel I love to see and experience as much as I can, but I also need a little down time to reset and recharge. This trip was exactly that. It was a perfect balance of trying new things, seeing and experiencing a lot, but also the time to just chill under the stars or drink some tea and chat or nap.

My favorite parts of this retreat was experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. Not only all of the sweet Moroccans but the wonderful ladies that were a part of our group. This is an experience that I don’t think I will ever forget. Also can’t wait to go on my next retreat with the Yoga Underground!

I’ve been mourning the end of this trip! I’m seriously missing the positive energy and all-around hype of this retreat.

There are SO many things I loved about this Goddess Retreat! First of all, the phenomenal job that you did in coordinating each adventure, tour, accommodation, and so on was beyond anything that I could have imagined. I was able to see so much of Morocco and feel as though we were really able to immerse ourselves in the culture.

The above mentioned by itself was already amazing, and then coupled with the company of such inspiring, confident, and independent women was like nothing I’ve ever been a part of before.

I cannot express enough the gratitude I have for this experience and each individual I’ve met on this retreat. I will hold the memory of this trip fondly, forever.

Thank you for creating this space for opportunities like this.

Brittany beautifully crafted the perfect escape to Morocco. The riads, the food, and the people were all perfection. The best part… the impromptu dancing and singing. If you’re looking to experience new places and build community Brittany’s retreats are the way to go.

My absolute favorite part of this magical goddess retreat was just exploring SO much of Morocco. I loved driving with different girls & getting to know them & experiencing the different drivers personalities. I adored the sunrises & sunsets while sitting on the dunes. I was in awe as I laid outside on a blanket and slept underneath the stars in the Sahara. The camel ride at sunset surrounded by the most perfect sand dunes then traveling to Essouria to the beach was a dream come true. Every single detail was simply perfect.

everything that we did to better experience Moroccan culture was so special to me — tea ceremonies, visiting nomadic families, visiting rug and argan oil co-ops, attending traditional music performances, eating locally prepared food, and even just seeing our guides have so much fun showing us their Sahara was so meaningful and are experiences I will always treasure. being able to build those sorts of connections and experience traditions and cultures that are in some ways so different, but in other ways so centered around the same important things of life, is just one of the best things about being alive. there was a moment when everyone who was staying in the retreat center – some we knew, and some we didn’t – were all dancing and singing and laughing together under the same celestial sky, and I just was overwhelmed with this feeling like… there are so many bad things in the world like wars and poverty and death and personal tragedy. but dancing still exists. people can get together and not even know each other or not speak the same language, but for just a moment, we can dance under the moon and everything is going to be okay. I’ll remember that feeling forever.

every single minute of off roading through the Sahara, blasting Moroccan music and making up lyrics since we couldn’t understand and dancing along so hard I was bruised the next day is one of the happiest memories of my life, I have never screamed so loud or laughed so hard. my cheeks were sore for days afterwards in the happiest of ways.

there was also one very specific memory of the first time we did yoga at night, on the rooftop, the sun setting and one by one the stars coming out, and the sliver of a crescent moon rose above us, and I’ve never felt so small and insignificant, and yet so big and grand and important, as that moment. we were underneath universes on end, and we were living and moving and breathing, and it all mattered. it matters so much.

I’ve been a forever fan of The Yoga Underground, but Morocco was my first time doing a retreat with them. From the brightest Sahara sky stars to the chillest beach sunsets, from the jaw-dropping desert landscapes to the franticness of the souks…I had no idea what to expect when I signed up, but this trip truly made dreams that I didn’t even know I had come true!

But just as much as the actual location and adventures, it was the people who made the trip so transformative. Brittany truly has a gift of bringing really special people together. I learned so much from the other women and felt such incredible love and support from them. This wasn’t even on my radar as a possible benefit of a retreat, but the increased confidence and sense of self that has come as a result of being around such amazing people has been the most life-changing part of the trip.

The Sahara Goddess retreat was more than I could’ve ever imagined! The ladies first off were incredible! It was amazing the love and safe space that was created. The adventures, culture, people, and spontaneous dance parties were something that brought a constant smile on my face the whole trip. A top memory was staying in the Sahara Desert and just walking in the sand and seeing endless dunes for miles without a care in the world. As you are working on yourself & surrounded by people that are doing the same and love life as much as you do something magical happens!! Forever grateful for Brittany for creating a sanctuary whether it’s in her studio or across the world for this!!

If only you knew how much this adventure meant to me. I appreciate you so much and can’t wait for the next adventure! I was able to really spend some time reflecting on our Sahara Goddess Retreat and found myself having to take a good amount of time to truly think of how to describe what an impact this had on me…but here goes…

Whether it be how well thought-out and planned this retreat was, incorporating adventure, fun, experiences, but also learning….about where we were and the culture…but also leaving room for the unexpected experiences….Whether it be the late night chats with strangers become friends, dancing into the night, or in the middle of the desert, surfing or just rolling down a sand dune, sunset camel rides…the laughter, the tears from individuals with such varied backgrounds, but have all come so closely together. This was an experience that I found myself reconnecting with parts of me I have put to the side, and I wish everyone could also have this experience. I am so grateful.

Can I just say how magical TYU Brittany’s Sahara Morocco retreat was. I seriously came away changed in a very good way. Yoga in the desert yes please, yoga on the roof top yes please. Meeting the most incredible bad ass women on the planet, yes please.
Great Moroccan food, culture, shopping and the best part was Brittany took care of it all. All I had to do was show up and have fun!!
