vhari’s story

What motivated you to start yoga/try out the yoga underground in the first place? (Or: what issues were you having that you hoped yoga would solve?)
After spending much of my life in my head, I really wanted to learn how to listen to my body. I was also in the middle of three years of nightmarish long Covid. Yoga helped me learn to slow down and listen to what my body needed me to hear. Many days, going to yoga was the only thing that would distract me from feeling miserable. The Yoga Underground connected me to a wonderful, supportive community, a new way to connect with myself and heal my mind and body.

The Ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes

What are your favorite benefits of a consistent practice?
My favorite thing about practicing is how it can take me from a day of feeling totally anxious, to finally feeling calm. My other favorite thing is the friendships and community I’ve found.

How did yoga at the yoga underground feel different than when you’d tried yoga in the past?
I kept trying yoga, but it was always too intimidating and seemed to lack the mindful, meditative, trauma-informed experience I finally found with the Underground. I love how yoga felt like it was for the wellbeing of all of me— it wasn’t about being “good” at something or losing weight or looking hot in an outfit. I could go just as I was and leave feeling more at peace in my head and body.

Take us to the moment you realized you were hooked:)
I knew I was hooked when I found myself going consistently multiple times a week. I had never kept consistent with any exercise class/regime before.

Tell us what your life looks like now/how things are different? How you are different?
Yoga has helped me in my therapy practice, in making it through one of the hardest experiences of my life and has taught me so much about my body and mind.

Vhari, we are so grateful for your sweet presence, your gracious demeanor, and your continued kindness. Cheers to 200 more classes – and beyond!

xoxo,
